Appraisals
Owners of precious gemstones or jewellery are generally most interested in the value of the item. Before a valuation can be made, the items must undergo a material evaluation. This must be carried out carefully and precisely in order to ascertain a fair market value. Due to the different levels of the wholesale business, values will vary by item. Recognised gemological laboratories base their examinations on the scientific properties of the items and, as such, do not make valuations.
Inheritance Assessments / Liquidation Value:
The inheritance and liquidation values correspond to the material value plus an added value should the piece be signed.
Market Value Assessment:
The market value corresponds to the material value plus an added value, depending upon the saleability of the item.
Insurance Assessment:
The insurance value corresponds to the price of buying or re-making a similar piece in a specialised shop.
